Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn at Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. When she was young her carnival barker father passed away, leaving Ruth's mother without a choice other than to be a cleaning woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she attended the school. She quit the school she attended after only two years in pursuit of acting as a profession. The path she chose was filled with difficulties. After obtaining a position at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she found it difficult to get opportunities for stage. When she was employed as a hat-check woman in a nightclub she resigned and went back to Boston. In Boston, when she worked at night as an actor with New England Repertory Company and during the day as an usherette. She has also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
